What this site keeps, and where.
The mailing list
The updates list asks for an email address, and only when you type one into a signup form and press join. It is the same list as gesture.live's. The stated purpose is GestureMIDI updates: the beta, the launch, and news about the app. Nothing else will be sent to it.
Where the address lives
Addresses are stored by MailerLite (MailerLite Limited, Ireland), which sends the mails on our behalf. This site has no database of its own and keeps no copy. Alongside the address, MailerLite records which form you used, the time of the confirming click and the IP address of that click, which is its consent record.
Double opt-in
Joining the list or the beta sends one confirmation mail. Until you click the link in it, the address is inactive and receives nothing. A mistyped address, or somebody else's, therefore never enters either.
The beta
The beta signup asks for an email address, whether you want the Mac or the Windows build, and, if you like, the DAW you use. They go into a separate MailerLite group used only to run the beta: the download link, the survey and your license. Joining the beta does not put you on the updates list. The one exception is the waitlist: if the beta is full when you press join, the form has said beforehand that you join the updates list instead, and the page tells you that is what happened.
The beta survey
About ten days in, testers get a survey hosted by Tally (Tally BV, Belgium, which stores responses in the EU). It keeps your answers, your email address, the app version and platform, the name you want on your license if you give one, and whether we may quote you, and how: full name, first name, anonymously, or not at all. When you submit, Tally sends the response to this site, which records only the outcome in MailerLite: which beta group you are in now (approved, or for a person to look at) and the license name. This site keeps no copy of the answers and logs none of them.
The beta license
A license earned in the beta is signed on Robin's own computer, not on a server. It carries the name you chose for it and never your email address. A short record of each license's number and your MailerLite reference is kept with it, so a lost license can be sent again and a leaked one told apart from a genuine one.
How long beta data is kept
Until the beta has ended and every earned license is sent. Then the beta groups, the platform, DAW and license name, and the survey responses are deleted. If you are also on the updates list, that stays until you leave it. A quote you allowed stays for as long as it is used, and you can withdraw that permission at any time. To have any of it deleted sooner, write to info@robinvansoelen.com from the address concerned.
What the app sends
The camera image is processed on your computer and is never stored or sent. Once per launch the app, beta and release builds alike, asks this site whether a newer version exists. That request carries only the app's version number, plus the IP address any web request carries, which our hosting provider Vercel (Vercel Inc., United States) sees in its request logs. The app adds no identifier of its own, and you can turn the check off in the app's Setup. The beta build's FEEDBACK button opens the survey in your browser, by way of this site, carrying only the app version and whether it is the Mac or the Windows build. Apart from a problem report you choose to send, the app sends nothing else.
Problem reports
A problem report is sent only when you press SEND REPORT in the app. It holds the crash file (after a crash), the app's recent log, the open preset, the app's settings, the app and system versions, the camera format, performance numbers, and the note and email address you typed, if any. It never holds camera images. It reaches us as a message in a private Discord channel (Discord Inc., United States) or as an email sent through Resend (Resend, Inc., United States), which deliver it on our behalf; this site keeps no copy. We keep a report only as long as we need it to fix the problem it describes. To have one deleted sooner, write to info@robinvansoelen.com, from the address you gave in it or with the time you sent it. SAVE AS FILE in the app writes the same report to your computer instead, and sends nothing.
Leaving
Every mail carries an unsubscribe link, and it works immediately. To have the address erased entirely rather than unsubscribed, write to info@robinvansoelen.com from that address and it is removed from MailerLite within a few days.
Analytics and the one cookie
Page views are counted with Vercel Web Analytics, which sets no cookies and builds no cross-site identifier. The site sets one cookie of its own, and only when you take a beta place: it holds nothing but the fact that this browser joined, is sent only to the beta signup, and expires after 120 days. It keeps the beta to one place per person. It is strictly necessary for that, so there is no consent banner: there is nothing else to consent to.
